Tory Lanez Claims He’s Earned His G.E.D., Enrolling In College Amid Incarceration
Tory Lanez is using his time wisely as he completes his 10-year prison sentence following the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
While incarcerated, the Chixtape artist has revealed that he’s not only focused on his music, but also his education. Lanez, né Daystar Peterson, shared via Adin Ross’ Kick stream that he’s earned his high school diploma (G.E.D.) and is enrolling in college this Fall.
On Sunday night (Aug 4), Lanez sounded in good spirits as he told Ross, “A ni**a just graduated high school, enrolled in college. Never thought I’d do that. But I’m taking this moment and I’m taking advantage over everything that’s good.”
He added, “I’m a f**king high school drop out that just graduated high school. That sh*t matters to me. So, it’s the small things that just have me feeling good about life right now.”

When asked how he’s keeping up, he expressed, “I’m great. I know that a lot of people sometimes when they hear prison or they hear somebody’s down, they think ni**as in the corner somewhere bawling his eyes out.”
However, the 31-year-old asserted that he’s “in a great space mentally,” and is hitting the gym and looking better than ever.
Last week, Lanez dropped his first project from behind bars, Prison Tapes, with two released singles, “Wish I Never Met You” and “Cell 245.” He also beamed as he revealed that he “cracked the code” on how to record studio-quality music from prison and would be releasing new music every week.
“It’s over. I done cracked the f**king code, man,” he declared. “This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It’s crazy!”
As far as his fight to get from behind bars early — he hasn’t been as successful.
The Canadian-bred rapper requested a new trial recently amid an affidavit submitted from his driver, Jauquan Smith, detailing the night of the shooting. However, Prosecutors refused the document saying that Lanez’s former attorney refused to call Smith as a witness in court.
According to Smith, he said he witnessed Kelsey Harris (Meg’s ex-bestfriend) holding a gun during the altercation and Lanez attempting to “disarm” her. Unfortunately, he said he did not see who exactly pulled the trigger.
