TRAILER: Dexter Prequel First Footage, Release Date
The first trailer for Dexter’s prequel series has been released, and it looks suitably murderous.
Dexter: Original Sin recasts serial killer Dexter Morgan, as played by Michael C. Hall since the series’ 2006 debut. Patrick Gibson steps into the blood-soaked shoes, best known for his roles in The OA and Shadow and Bone.
That’s not to say Hall is entirely absent, however. He reprises his role as the inner voice of young Dexter Morgan as he transforms from innocent youth to avenging serial killer.
Set in 1991 Miami, the series follows a teenage Dexter grappling with violent urges. In search of a guide, he turns to his father (Christian Slater), who helps him establish the code Dexter abides by for the rest of his life. This code is what makes Dexter at least partially redeemable. He doesn’t kill solely for pleasure, but to remove other dangerous individuals from society.
Dexter’s also a master at hiding his tracks, with his prequel series exploring how he started his passion for forensics by doing an internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. Joining Gibson and Slater on the cast are Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
