The movie world lost one of its brightest lights on Nov. 30, 2013, when Paul Walker died in a car accident at the too-young age of 40. His Fast and the Furious co-stars paid tribute to him in his final appearance in that franchise, 2015’s Furious 7, and now Walker will be celebrated in a documentary premiering next month. As the first trailer for I Am Paul Walker indicates, there will be quite a lot of rare footage of the actor before he was a star. (Watch below.)

I Am Paul Walker will trace the life and career of the star, who rose to fame with parts in She’s All That and Varsity Blues before hitting the big time as undercover LAPD officer Brian O’Conner in 2001’s The Fast and the Furious opposite Vin Diesel. He’d reprise that role six times over the course of the next decade-plus, although director Adrian Buitenhuis’s doc will, on the basis of the above promo, be about more than just his cinematic race-car driving. Showing off many childhood home movies of Walker while family members, friends, and colleagues reminisce about the actor’s personality and interests outside the movie industry, the film looks to be a heartstring-tugging effort and one that will benefit from early clips of him riding big wheels, surfing, and hanging out with loved ones.

Featuring Tyrese Gibson, Rob Cohen, Wayne Kramer, and many more, I Am Paul Walker debuts on the Paramount Network on Aug. 11 at 9 p.m.
