Traitors star claims pop singer is father of her unborn child
A star from The Traitors has claimed a pop singer is the father of her unborn child, prompting a backlash from her estranged wife.
Charlotte Chilton, who appeared in the second series of the popular BBC reality series, has named British singer Conor Maynard as the father after meeting him at a wrap party following filming.
The 32-year-old recruitment manager, who is estranged from her wife of seven years, revealed the news on social media, saying she “won’t be silenced” any longer.
In a video posted on her Instagram, Ms Chilton said: “I’ve really toyed with whether this is the right thing to do or not …I’ve not named the father in protection of him … even though they’ve told me that by speaking out people will probably hate me.”
She continued: “I’m tired of carrying around this secret, it’s affecting my mental health … The reason I didn’t say who the father’s name was is because they said it was gonna be a massive buzz.
“I don’t think it’s relevant ... I’m prepared to do this alone. But I’m not prepared to have my daughter just have to grow up and not be able to say who her father is.”
She had announced the pregnancy earlier in April, writing on social media that she had previously had seven miscarriages in her 20s and an IVF failure.
“I’m not a secret, she’s not a dirty secret, and I won’t be treated like one anymore, I won’t be silenced. I feel like I’m being muzzled to protect someone else who has a full legal team,” Ms Chilton added.
Now her estranged wife, Laura, has told the Mail Online that the pair were still a couple when Ms Chilton was filming the show and attended the wrap party – contradicting Ms Chilton’s claims that they were no longer together.
“She went down to London for this wrap party – I read she had been forced to go down. She wasn’t forced to go at all, she was seizing that opportunity,” Laura said.
“I had a feeling something had gone on because she decided she would stay an extra day – which was obviously the night she got with this Conor Maynard, which I had caught wind of as she mentioned to me he had a crush on her and she wasn’t interested – we were still together.”
Maynard, 31, has not publicly responded to Ms Chilton’s revelation, but was pictured attending an event in Battersea Park with his girlfriend over the weekend.
It is thought that the Can’t Say No singer met Ms Chilton through Harry Clark, the winner of The Traitors who is dating Maynard’s sister, Anna.
Ms Chilton spoke about her wife Laura on the show, but has maintained that she met the singer shortly after the two split.
Representatives for Conor Maynard and Charlotte Chilton have been contacted for comment.
