Travis Kelce Is Feeling the Heat About His Taylor Swift Romance Amid Lackluster Football Season
Unfortunately, we knew this day would come. The moment Travis Kelce stumbled on the football field; Taylor Swift would somehow be blamed for his lackluster performance. Well, that day has arrived.
Sports commentator Todd McShay entered the chat on The Ryen Russell Podcast on Monday, Sept. 24 to point the blame in Swift’s direction. “Every show I watch, every pregame show, halftime show, postgame show, weekday show, every broadcast I watch for the last few weeks, it’s like, are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape? That he’s been partying all offseason? He’s been jet-setting around with the most famous person probably in the entire world,” McShay said.

There it is. He didn’t even need to say Swift’s name, but the implication is that the romance has distracted him from the game of football. “I want you to take a picture from preseason 2022 and then take a picture preseason 2024, they’re barely the same human being,” McShay continued. “Here’s the thing, bottom line with Kelce: The coverage and the respect he gets is the same, the athlete is not.”
We aren’t football experts, so we will take the sport expert’s word that it’s a disappointing start to the season for Kelce — but Swift isn’t the only thing happening in his life. As an athlete, he’s allowed to enjoy a well-rounded personal life, and it’s also no secret he has Hollywood ambitions. From his cameo in Grotesquerie to his upcoming Amazon Prime game show, Kelce is making moves that might be taking time away from the football field.
Kelce’s business managers, André and Aaron Eanes, have been plotting behind the scenes to make the 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end a household name even before Swift entered the picture. They created a “manicured business plan” to make him a star. “We positioned Travis to be world-famous,” André Eanes told The New York Times in January. “We didn’t know how it would happen, or when it would happen, or what would help push that further along. But it’s always been the thought in the back of our minds.”
McShay might not have intended for his Kelce argument to be dripping in misogyny, but there it was. Kelce’s obligation as an athlete is to stay in shape and play at the top of his game — Swift didn’t order him to eat an extra carb. The 34-year-old NFL star will figure it out, but let’s keep his superstar girlfriend out of the discourse.
