Travis Scott 'close' to joining Maroon 5 for Super Bowl halftime performance — but not if Jay-Z has his way
Maroon 5 may have finally found someone to join the band onstage at the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 3: rapper Travis Scott.
According to the Associated Press, Kylie Jenner’s beau is “close to signing on.” Entertainment Tonight also said Scott is in line for the show, while TMZ claims he is on board and Cardi B and Outkast’s Big Boi are also in talks to join the show. Neither the NFL nor Pepsi, the main sponsor of the halftime spectacle, has officially confirmed Maroon 5 as the headliner, although it has been widely reported.
Adam Levine and his band were criticized by some for purportedly agreeing to perform, given the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick. Earlier this month, a source told Us Weekly that Maroon 5 was “having a lot of trouble finding guests” because “no one wants to associate themselves with the NFL.” On his song “Apes***,” Jay-Z rapped about turning down an offer to perform, and Rihanna reportedly declined as well. According to Variety, Beyoncé’s husband is “attempting” to talk Scott, 26, out of performing. (Both Jay-Z and Beyoncé attended Scott’s L.A. concert Wednesday night.)

A Change.org petition urging Maroon 5 to drop out had more than 75,000 signatures as of Thursday.
Amy Schumer, who told her representatives she would not do a Super Bowl commercial out of solidarity with Kaepernick, believes she “may have made a difference” by making her stance public.
“I have done 2 Super Bowl commercials in the last couple years,” she wrote on Instagram, “and I’m so stupid thinking my opinion would matter right? Well guess what? I may have made a difference. No one is stepping up to perform.”
It remains to be seen whether Travis Scott is swayed.
