Triple Crown of Acting: Who scored Emmy, Oscar and Tony nominations in the same year? [PHOTOS]
In January 2018 – less than eight months after she won her first Tony Award for “A Doll’s House, Part 2” – Laurie Metcalf was given her first shot at an Oscar thanks to her work in “Lady Bird.” By the end of that summer, she had bagged another Tony for “Three Tall Women” and reaped an Emmy bid for “Roseanne,” thus becoming the ninth performer to ever compete for the Triple Crown of Acting in the span of one year. Tour our photo gallery to learn who preceded her in joining this exclusive club.
As of now, this list includes five female and four male entrants. Two-thirds of the members each landed all three types of nominations in the same calendar year by following the Oscar-Tony-Emmy trajectory. Besides Metcalf, the only triple contenders who succeeded on any of their bids are Jason Robards (Oscar, “Julia,” 1978), Glenn Close (Tony, “The Real Thing,” 1984), and Laura Linney (Emmy, “Frasier,” 2004).
