Trump teases White House run in 2024, says he's looking at it 'beyond seriously'
Former President Donald Trump joined Hannity on Monday for his first sit-down television interview since leaving office in January. A common theme throughout the interview was for host Sean Hannity to repeatedly prod Trump for some semblance of an answer about whether he’ll run for office again in 2024. Trump has remained noncommittal, even as other would-be GOP candidates have said they’d support him. But on Monday night, Trump may have tipped his hand ever so slightly.
“Are you running again in 2024?” Hannity asked. “What are the odds?” “First of all, it’s a long time,” Trump replied. “The odds, the odds. What are the odds?” Then, after a brief tangent, Trump added, “I say this: I am looking at it very seriously, beyond seriously. From a legal standpoint, I don’t want to really talk about it yet. It’s a little too soon.”
Whether or not Trump runs or not in 2024 could be more of a legal issue for the former president than anything else. Trump is under investigation in New York for past financial dealings, and prosecutors in Georgia are looking into possible charges over his efforts to pressure state officials into overturning the results of the 2020 election in the state.
Nevertheless, Trump’s support would be huge for any Republican congressional candidate in 2022, and Trump believes it’s in their best interest to adopt his policies.
“Should anybody that wants to run for the House or the Senate, should they take this make America great agenda and fight for those things that you fought for the four years you were president?” Hannity asked. “If they want to win, yes,” Trump responded, later adding, “If you want to win and win big, you have to do that. You have to do it.”
Though Trump has trashed some of his fellow Republicans as of late, he told Hannity he’d go to great lengths to help the GOP win back Congress in 2022.
“If they need a rally, we’ll do a rally. We’ll do calls,” Trump said. “We’ll do all sorts of things. No, no, we’re all in.”
Hannity airs weeknights at 9 p.m. on Fox News Channel.
