The Truth About [Spoiler]’s Death in Territory Sets Up an Even Bigger Betrayal
Territory’s first season has climbed to the top of Netflix’s most-watched list, and it’s easy to see why. The Australian show, which focuses on the struggle for power that ensues when the world’s largest cattle station is left without an apparent heir, has a lot of Yellowstone vibes and a couple of recognizable faces at the center. Plus, it’s on Netflix, which means an easy binge.
Anna Torv, better known for Fringe, and Sam Corlett, better known for Vikings: Valhalla headline the cast as two members of the Lawson family. The show picks up as Marianne Station is left without a clear successor and the family at the center of it is clashing. This, of course, means that absolutely everyone from rival cattle barons to desert gangsters and even billionaire miners will look to take advantage.

Filmed in remote locations in Australia, like the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park and Tipperary Station, a working cattle station, Territory presents a reality that seems hard to fathom for audiences not familiar with how cattle stations work, or even their size. The real-life Anna Creek Station, which served as the inspiration for the series, is bigger than the state of New Jersey. That means there is indeed a lot of territory and a lot of stories to tell.
Season 1 sees Marshall (Sam Corlett) leave Marianne Station and both Susie Lawson (Philippa Northeast) and Rich Petrakis (Sam Delich) die and Campbell Miller (Jay Ryan) shot in the explosive finale. But with many Lawsons still left, and plenty of stories set up for the future, will there be a Season 2 of Territory? Or is this the end of the Netflix show?
Will there be a season 2 of Territory?
The show was only recently released, so there’s no word yet on whether Netflix will go ahead with a second season. But considering how well the show did in its first few days and the subject matter – which positions it as a competition to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone – it’s not hard to imagine a renewal for the show could come soon.

Territory’s first season focuses on the family patriarch (Robert Taylor) as he tries to pick a successor after the death of Daniel. The options include his oldest son Graham (Michael Dorman, an alcoholic who has one thing going for him, and his wife Emily. The problem is that, before she married into the Lawson family, Emily was part of a rival family – which means Colin is never sure he can trust her. And then there’s Marshall (Sam Corlett), who has no interest in Marianne Station, and Susie, the smartest of them all but in a relationship with Lachie (Joe Klocek), the son of mining magnate Sandra Kirby (Sara Wiseman).
If there is a Season 2, we can expect the show will delve into the revelation that Emily Lawson (Anna Torv) played a role in Daniel Lawson’s (Jake Ryan) death. Just as we can expect the show will tackle the fact that did so because she and Daniel were both in on a deal to sell Marianne Station to Sandra Kirby. And the show surely has to go into Sandra’s plan to bury radioactive waste on Lawson land, which would destroy their cattle empire.
Plus, the season ends with Colin handing over the keys to the big house to Emily and Graham, suggesting they’re the new heirs. But what will happen once Colin finds out the truth about Daniel? Will Emily let him take what she’s fought so hard for? Or will Colin be even more collateral damage? All questions a Season 2 of Territory would surely tackle.
