Tucker Carlson says women making more money leads to 'drug and alcohol abuse'
Tucker Carlson used part of his opening monologue on Wednesday’s Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News to discuss the blending of economics and culture. He argued that urban decay is popping up in rural neighborhoods due to male unemployment, in part caused by women earning more money than men.
“Study after study has shown that when men make less than women, women generally don’t want to marry them. Maybe they should want to marry them, but they don’t,” Carlson said. “Over big populations, this causes a drop in marriage, a spike in out-of-wedlock births and all the familiar disasters that inevitably follow: More drug and alcohol abuse, higher incarceration rates, fewer families formed in the next generation.”
While some viewers on Twitter thought Carlson was spot on with his monologue.
Family, faith, nation. Things most Americans can agree on, but not so much our rulers. @TuckerCarlson hits it out of the park. https://t.co/oHIV2PCIHX

Agree. That segment last night was amazing and refreshing. No one talks like that anymore.

Others weren’t enthused by his point of view.

My wife is free to make more money than me. I’m not intimidated by her separate career path. Sorry if that offends @TuckerCarlson https://t.co/jjyOqe5IJn

No @TuckerCarlson, it doesnt. You’re using that as an excuse. What you REALLY mean is men are scared of losing their self perceived superiority and their fragile little egos cant handle a woman being stronger and more valuable than they are. It’s ok, princess, you’ll get over it. https://t.co/n0C6qokPil

Some wondered if these comments would prompt more advertisers to drop his show.
Can he lose the rest of his advertisers already so we can get him off the air at last?

Shameful. I hope advertisers will boycott #TuckerCarlson’s program.

Carlson went on to blame both parties for what he calls a “crisis in marriage.” And he added that ignoring it is “negligence on a massive scale.”
“This is not speculation or propaganda from evangelicals. It’s social science. We know it’s true,” Carlson said. “Rich people know it best of all. That’s why they get married before they have kids. That model works. But increasingly marriage is a luxury only the affluent in America can afford.”
