TV Academy Set to Still Honor Samantha Bee After ‘Feckless C—‘ Backlash

Samantha Bee will receive a Television Academy Honor as planned on Thursday despite the backlash over her use of the phrase “feckless c—” to describe Ivanka Trump.

Bee’s “Full Frontal” is one of seven shows honored by the TV Academy for how they’ve “harnessed the extraordinary power of television to advocate for social change while exploring significant issues facing society.”

A spokesperson for the TV Academy confirmed Thursday afternoon that Bee will receive the honor as planned, although the event will not be televised or livestreamed. The press is not permitted inside the event, a policy that was already in place before Wednesday’s night’s fallout.

The other programs being awarded are “Andi Mack,” “Daughters of Destiny,” “Forbidden: Undocumented & Queer in Rural America,” “LA 92,” “One Day at a Time” and “13 Reasons Why.”

Bee was apologized to Ivanka Trump on Thursday after she took aim at the first daughter on “Full Frontal” for failing to stand up to the president over his immigration policy.

“Let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless c—!” Bee said on Wednesday’s episode of the show. “He listens to you. Put on something tight and low cut and tell your father to f-ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes.”

After considerable backlash, including the loss of at least one sponsor, Bee apologized, calling the insult “inappropriate and inexcusable.”

“I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,” she said.
