The Pacific Rim films are set in a future where Earth is at war with colossal sea monsters that enter through an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Giant fighting robots, controlled by co-pilots, are used by humans to fight the monsters. The first movie, released in 2013, was directed by Guillermo del Toro and starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini and Ron Perlman.
The sequel Pacific Rim Uprising came out in 2018, with Steven S. DeKnight taking over as director and Del Toro serving as producer. It starred John Boyega and Scott Eastwood, with Kikuchi, Day and Burn Gorman reprising their roles.
