Twilight Offshoot Midnight Sun Gets Netflix Series Order, With a Twist
Netflix on Wednesday announced a straight-to-series order for an adaptation of Midnight Sun, author Stephenie Meyer’s 2020 companion piece for her well-known Twilight novels.
Midnight Sun retells the events of Twilight from the perspective of Edward Cullen, the vampire character played on film by Robert Pattinson, as opposed to the Twilight novels’ usual narrator, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart in the movies).

But whereas the Stewart/Pattison films were live action (and quite sparkly), the series will be animated.
When development on this TV series was first announced almost a year-and-a-half ago, there was no suggestion that it would turn out to be an animated series, which is what Netflix greenlit on Wednesday. It wasn’t until March of this year that there was talk that the adaptation would not be live action.
This Lionsgate Television production counts Meyer as an executive producer, alongside producing partner Meghan Hibbett, writer Sinead Daly (Tell Me Lies, Dirty John, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency), Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey.
The first, eponymous film based on Meyer’s Twilight series was released in November 2008, and followed by adaptations of the other books in the series: New Moon (in 2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn — Part 1 (2011) and Breaking Dawn — Part 2 (2012).
