Two New Twists Set Up a Chaotic "Drag Race All Stars" Finale Where Anyone Could Win

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 9 comes to an end next week with Part Two of the two-part finale, and it's still anyone's crown to win. While the frontrunners had seemed solidified a few weeks ago, two new twists have now made most of what happened in Episodes 1-10 largely irrelevant.

This week there was no maxi-challenge or Benefactress Badges given out. Instead we got two new twists, a mini challenge that involved giving makeovers to crew members, the queens completing dares for charity, the Tic Tac lunch, and of course plenty of Werk Room chit chat, all setting up next week's grande finale.

Over the last 11 weeks, the eight competing queens have slowly inched closer to one finally being inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame and earning $200,000. Unlike every previous season of the show, this time the queens are not competing for themselves. They're competing for a cause. Each of our eight girls have selected a charity and all of their winnings will go to support that good philanthropic work. Also, as with All Stars 7, no one will be going home this season. Instead, each week the top two queens will earn Benefactress Badges, with the three queens who have the most badges competing against each other in the finale for that crown (and cash). Each week, the top two queens will also lip sync in order to win a cash tip for their charity.

Here's everything that went down in Episode 11 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 9:

What are the new twists for the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 9?

The Variety Show Extravaganza

For most of the season, the top two winners of every maxi challenge have won one Benefactress Badge. Twice, the winners have earned two badges, one to keep and one to give away. However, RuPaul announced that next week's talent show challenge will be worth a whopping three badges. With the point totals ranging from 2 to 5 at the moment, this means that whichever two queens with the finale's maxi-challenge will go onto the top three. Essentially, the first 11 weeks were for naught.

The Double Diamond

Perhaps even more confusing, however, is a new power that Ts Madison introduced this week titled the "Double Diamond." The winner of this will double their Benefactress Badges right before the top three are announced, most likely moving this queen into the finals as well. This power, however, will be awarded by the queens themselves as they vote for who they want to grant the gift. The queens all voted at the end of Episode 11, but we didn't see all of their votes. If the Double Diamond winner doesn't win the Variety Show, then it's likely all three will take places in the final lip sync for the crown.

Who will win the Double Diamond on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 9?

This is where it gets a little tricky. We saw some of the votes being cast at the end of Episode 11. Here's how they fell:

  • Gottmik - Voted for Nina West

  • Angeria Paris VanMichaels - Vote unknown

  • Shannel - Vote unknown

  • Vanessa Vanjie Mateo - Vote unknown

  • Roxxxy Andrews - Voted for Nina West

  • Jorgeous - Voted for Plastique Tiara

  • Plastique Tiara - Voted for Roxxxy Andrews

  • Nina West - Voted for Roxxxy Andrews

There seem to be two strategies at play here. The first is to vote for Roxxxy, who already has five badges and is already likely to make the finale. If she gets the Double Diamond, it sort of doesn't matter because the queens already assumed she'd be in the finale and se deserves it.

The second is to vote for Nina West, who only has two badges and seems unlikely to win the talent show. With the Double Diamond, she'd then only have four badges, which wouldn't get her into the final lip sync anyways. The same goes for Gottmik and Miss Vanjie. If any of those three win the Double Diamond, they'd need to also win the talent show to make the final lip sync.

Unless all three of the known votes go to the same queen, it seems most likely that either Nina West, Plastique Tiara or Roxxxy Andrews will win the Double Diamond.
