2024 has become Tyla‘s breakout year in so many ways. This hasn’t only been in terms of music but in terms of style as well. This weekend at the MTV Europe Music Awards, the star took home awards for Best African Act, Best Afrobeats and Best R&B. But before she even made it to the stage to accept any awards or give a performance, she was already going viral for her look.

On the red carpet, Tyla channeled Aaliyah, who she has often said has been a large influence on her work. She wore a Roberto Cavalli fall 2000 striped gown. The dress was a blue version of a famous yellow Cavalli gown that Aaliyah wore to the MTV VMA awards in 2000. Eve wore the exact blue version that year.

For shoes, Tyla paired the look with the Paris Texas Uma sandal. That knee-high style is made of croc-embossed leather. It features a square toe and a gladiator style upper. The upper features straps that go up the foot and the leg including four small silver buckles. It also includes a silver heel of about four inches with a thong-style strap.

But that was only one of the looks that stylist Ronnie Hart put together for her. For her performance, Hart put her in a Norma Kamali onesie and a pair of destroyed denim short shorts. In addition, he chose another pair of sandals. These were Burju’s Stay Strapped heels. That design features an open toe and a zip up the back.

Featuring vegan leather, the shoes are both sexy and secure as they include a non-slip lining and straps throughout as well as a buckle closer across the foot. The company is currently selling it for $109.

Tyla has become known for her preference for vintage clothing. And for shoes she’s often opted for sandal styles or boots. At the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show it was pretty obvious she would wear a sandal as everyone involved in that show wore Rene Caovilla sandals. Before that, in September she wore another pair of Caovilla sandals to the VMAs. In June at the BET Awards, she wore a pair of heels from Flor de Maria featuring a leopard-print sole. Also for her “Push 2 Start” recent music video she wore the thigh-high DSquared2 Riri sandals.
