Tyler, the Creator To Make Film Debut In ‘Marty Supreme’ Starring Tim Chalamet
Tyler, the Creator should have been on the silver screen following the success of his comedy series Loiter Squad in 2014. Now, that time has come as he’s making his film debut along side Tim Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow in Marty Supreme.
According to Variety, the Josh Safdie-directed film “centers on a professional ping pong pro.” Although the full plot hasn’t been revealed, A24 did hint at the synopsis with an image of a tennis ball captioned “coming soon.”
The outlet previously reported that the film may be loosely based on the life of Marty Reisman, a 22-time ping pong champion who won titles from 1946 to 2002, and five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. Additionally, the player made history as the oldest competitor to win an open national competition in a racket sport while competing in the United States National Hardbat Championship. Reisman passed away in 2012.
The Odd Future rapper manifested the moment when he rapped about the Dune actor on his 2018 song, “OKRA.” He spit, “Tim Chalamet to come get at me/ Skin glowin’, clear of acne/ Diamonds see-through, so holographic.”
The trendsetter is sure to do well on the big screen as he’s already proven himself in other areas of his life including his rap career, producing television shows, and venturing into fashion. Impressively, in 2022, the 33-year-old won a Grammy for Best Rap Album for Call Me if You Get Lost and scored the same nod in 2019 for Igor.
Besides creating musical masterpieces in the booth, Tyler, né Tyler Gregory Okonma, also started his own music festival in Los Angeles called Camp Flog Gnaw.
An official trailer or first-look has yet to come for Marty Supreme.
