Celebrity romances are never easy to predict but 2024 has delivered us many celebrity couples that we absolutely never saw coming.
Stars like Joseph Quinn and Doja Cat, and Meryl Streep and Martin Short gave us whiplash with romances so random that we’re still wrapping our heads around it.
Quinn and Doja Cat’s secret romance was revealed in mid-August when they were seen on a series of cozy dates in London. Streep and Short, meanwhile, first sparked romance rumors back in March when they attended the Broadway show “Merrily We Roll Along” together but speculation heated up at the August 22 premiere of Only Murders in the Building.
These unexpected pairings aren’t the only celebrities whose love lives kept us guessing this year.

Meryl Streep & Martin Short
We couldn’t be more excited (and also surprised) to see Only Murders in the Building co-stars Meryl Streep and Martin Short fuel dating rumors at the premiere of their show!
The couple were recorded holding hands both on and off the red carpet months after previously shutting down speculation that their on-screen romance had progressed off-screen too.
In an August 22 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Short did say that he and the Oscar winner are just “friends” but we live in hope.
Joseph Quinn & Doja Cat
We thought we had heard the last of these two in 2022 after Doja Cat blasted Noah Schnapp for sharing messages she sent asking to be set up with his Stranger Things co-star Joseph Quinn.
However, it looks like they finally found their way to each other in 2024 after they were photograped on a series of dates in London.
Andrew Garfield & Kate Tomas
An Oscar nominee and a “witch”? Yeah, we wouldn’t have called this either.
Tick, Tick… Boom star Andrew Garfield sparked romance rumors with self-described “magickal practioner” Kate Tomas in March 2024 when they were photographed holding hands while out to dinner in LA.
The unexpected romance generated a lot of discussion online with many rude comments thrown Tomas’ way and though her low-key actor boyfriend isn’t one to talk about his romances publicly, Tomas has no problem defending herself.
“It’s frustrating that no matter how accomplished or impactful a woman is, it’s always going to be more interesting if they are in a relationship with a man,” Tomas told The Sunday Times in July. “I don’t want to sit under anybody’s shadow.”
Lucien Laviscount & Shakira
Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount made a steamy appearance in Shakira’s music “Puntería” music video in March, which is where sources said “the chemistry started,” per Us Weekly.
While we would have never put these two together, they somehow make perfect sense! However, it seems the pair are only casually dating and “not that serious at the moment,” according to sources.
Bella Hadid & Adan Banuelos
Bella Hadid is officially in her cowgirl era and no one could have seen it coming.
The model hard-launched her romance on Valentine’s Day by posting a series of loved up snaps with cutting horse rider, and her trainer, Adan Banuelos.
Dua Lipa & Callum Turner
On January 11, Dua Lipa and Callum Turner kicked 2024 off with a bang when they were reportedly seen slow dancing at the London premiere of Turner’s series, Masters of the Air.
They have been photographed getting cozy on many dates since and made their romance Instagram official in July.
Sara Sampaio & Ray Nicholson
Model Sara Sampaio and Jack Nicholson’s son Ray Nicholson reportedly started dating in summer 2023 but they saved their relationship debut until the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March, leaving us wondering how we didn’t see this one coming sooner?!
Dove Cameron & Damiano David
Dove Cameron and Damiano David made their red carpet debut at Clive Davis’ annual Pre-Grammy Gala in February, hard-launching their unexpected romance.
In June, Cameron gushed about their relationship in an interview with Cosmopolitan. “He’s the best person I’ve met in my life,” she told the outlet. “You spend two minutes around him and you realize he is the kindest, most generous, most innocent, most giving person. He’s just a beautiful, sensitive soul.”
Sabrina Carpenter & Barry Keoghan
Early 2024 belonged to Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan who met in late 2023. They reportedly had a secret date at a Golden Globes after-party in January and went public when they were pictured looking cozy at a W Magazine party in February.
Keoghan played the role of the supportive boyfriend during Carpenter’s leg on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, her Coachella performance and the pair even posed together at the Met Gala.
In June, the couple all but broke the internet when Keoghan appeared in Carpenter’s steamy “Please Please Please” music video. However, by August, reports emerged that the couple had called it quits.
Bradley Cooper & Gigi Hadid
So these Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid technically started dating in 2023 but things really picked up in the early part of the year when Hadid attended a Golden Globes after-party with the Maestro director’s mom.
Since then, the couple have been seen out and about at music festivals, restaurants and more, and they’re definitely not holding back on the PDA.
