Union 15 closes at Colonial Gardens, as new restaurants are on the way. What we know
Colonial Gardens in south Louisville is, yet again, going through some changes.
Of the four spaces reserved for restaurants at the restored historic property in south Louisville, two are not currently operating. Union 15, a pizzeria and taphouse and the first-ever tenant of Colonial Gardens, recently shut down. It previously shut down, then reopened with new owners, in 2022.
“Their year is up and we opted to not renew them,” according to the food hall’s developer Jeff Underhill. “This is not a tragic fallout. This is a business decision to go in another direction.”
This closure comes after the Colonial Gardens installations of Biscuit Belly and Taco Luchador, both successful restaurants on their own, also closed.
What's coming to Colonial Gardens?
Plans are in motion to fill the empty restaurant spaces within the next few months, Underhill told the Courier Journal, with new-to-Louisville concepts.
Costa del Sol, a Latin restaurant, has already soft opened and Hokkaido Ramen & Sushi is expected to open by the end of the month, according to Underhill, who spearheaded the $5 million redevelopment at 818 W. Kenwood Drive.
Underhill said he has two potential restaurant options for the remaining vacant space and should have a deal done “very soon.”
“I’m very excited about each one of the changes,” Underhill said. “I think it will be positive.”
Underhill said he hopes to have the new restaurants, alongside anchor The B.A. Colonial, set up for the summertime, when the building’s patio hosts live music and other events and when events ramp up at the nearby Iroquois Amphitheater.
