Baked-good news
Create your own cupcake at The Makery
Pace has a delightful new bakery called The Makery at 4857 Spencer Field Road. While The Makery has a fully stocked bakery case with treats to grab on-the-go, like toffee chocolate chip cookies, toasted marshmallow brownies and red apple cheesecake, the make-your-own cupcake bar is becoming the bake shop's claim to fame. You can choose your own cake flavor, filling, frosting and toppings with about 27 ingredients from which to choose. The fillings are what dreams are made of, with options like blueberry lavender jam, house-made Nutella, vanilla bean pastry cream and peanut butter mousse. The Makery was opened by chef Meredith Sowell, whose career spans over 10 years in various professional kitchens. The Makery is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday through Saturday at 4857 W. Spencer Field Road.
Bagelheads bagels hit grocery store shelves
If you’ve been following Bagelheads' improvements since their grand-reopening last fall, you’ll be thrilled to hear about the latest improvement ? these Pensacola-made bagels are now available on Bailey's Produce & Nursery shelves. Bagelheads has been a Pensacola favorite since first opening in 1998 with giant bagels. Bailey's is located at 4301 N. Davis Highway and will carry blueberry, everything and plain bagels for sale by the half dozen. The bagels are in addition to the existing shop at 916 E. Gregory St. Owners Ben and Leah Fishbein bought the restaurant in 2022 from Rob and Jan Mackey, who founded the restaurant.
Sunday brunch begins in two Pensacola favorites
Sunday brunch at Salt
Since Salt, a Mediterranean-coastal inspired restaurant, took over the former H2O on Pensacola Beach last summer, H2O fans have been craving their Sunday brunch. Starting on Feb. 11, the wait will be over. Brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu will include traditional dishes such as steak and eggs and bagels and lox, along with signature dishes that cater to both your sweet and savory tooth. From the sugar-sprinkled Challah bread French toast to the C & W BLT made with fried chicken, bacon infused waffles, fried green tomato and bacon habanero maple syrup. The drink specials include $6 Bloody Mary's and $3 mimosas, along with a variety of rotating featured cocktails. Starting on Feb. 18, Salt will also be offering complimentary valet parking for brunch guests. Salt is located at 12 Via De Luna Drive.
Sunday brunch begins at Union Public House
As if Union Public House's new location at 36 E. Garden St. could get any more exciting, owner and executive chef Blake Rushing just dropped a brand-new Sunday brunch menu that debuted in late-January. True to the Union spirit, you know this isn’t going to be any typical brunch menu. On the menu, you’ll find a chef's playground of creative flavors and experimentation on classic brunch items, including the UPH Foie Gras “McMuffin,” Frosted Flake fried chicken, Big Ass Biscuit and Gravy, and the Scottish Salmon Fish Cake Benny. If you're curiosity is piqued from the entrée names alone, try it for yourself on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 pm.
Two food trucks find a permanent home
SUT-SHI rolls into permanent Pace location with new menu
Chef Sutthinan Suphanniam has built a cult-following for his SUT-SHI food truck, specializing in hand-rolled sushi and hibachi. Now he has made some changes as he continues to grow his business, including a new menu and a permanent location. The modified menu removes hibachi from the mix and leans into the sushi side of the business, offering four signature burritos (two with raw seafood and two fully cooked), a dozen regular rolls, 10 specialty rolls, specialty bowls, nigiri and the fan-favorite build-your-own sushi burrito. The four-step sushi burrito process starts with choosing a base, protein, fillings and picking from seven signature sauces. The SUT-SHI food truck will now be regularly stationed outside Fusion Wine & Spirits Shopping Center in Pace located at 5410 U.S. 90.
Locals Gon Greek finds home in new Gulf Breeze food park
Locals Gon Greek owner Evangelos Varonos brought his Greek roots and recipes to Pensacola last spring, offering Greek street foods like the Tylikta Pita Souvlaki (Greek sandwich pita wraps) and the kalamakia (grilled skewers). Varonos has been sure to guarantee the quality of what you would eat in his home city of Athens by importing all of his ingredients from Greece, aside from his fresh meats and produce, like the freshly baked pita, feta, salt, yogurt, spices and baklava. Now, he has found a regular spot for customers to dive into his Greek cuisine at the Grab-a-Bite Food Court & Bar from 11 a.m. to 8 pm on Monday through Friday, with plans to expand into weekends. He is also offering delivery through Door Dash, Grub Hub and Uber Eats. For a look at the full menu or to place an order online, check out the Locals Gon Greek website. Grab-a-Bite is located at 5260 Gulf Breeze Parkway.
