'This Is Us': We figured out exactly when Jack Pearson died
It’s been a sad couple of weeks for This Is Us fans. Season 2 has been parceling out more details about Jack Pearson’s untimely death. While the series has been giving us many clues and even some misdirection as to how Jack died, the show featured an unsettling scene last week in which an old slow cooker set the Pearson family’s house ablaze.
While that’s most likely the origin of Jack’s death, the details of how he dies will play out during Sunday’s post-Super Bowl episode. Meanwhile, we think we’ve solved the mystery of the date in which he died. In the “That’ll Be the Day” episode, Jack and Rebecca are seen celebrating the Super Bowl. When the camera pans to the TV, we see a glimpse of John Elway’s Broncos jersey and the Green Bay Packers logo. The last time those two teams faced off against each other was in Super Bowl XXXII on Jan. 25, 1998, the night Jack passed away.
Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca Pearson on the show, recently shared a selfie on her Instagram story after watching the Super Bowl episode with the rest of the cast. If that photo tells us anything, it’s that Sunday’s episode will be a soul-crushing, roller-coaster event, and much like Mandy Moore, we will need days, if not weeks, to recover.
The “Super Bowl Sunday” episode is scheduled to air Sunday, Feb. 4 (10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT) immediately following the Super Bowl post-game show. However, if the Super Bowl runs long, This Is Us will also be pushed back.
