In this week’s episode of the This Is Us rewatch podcast That Was Us (available to stream at noon ET today), the actors recall how they were so in the moment while shooting the Season 1 finale argument that they started cursing at each other — making the footage unusable on NBC primetime.
Fans of the show will recall that the Season 1 closer ends with Rebecca laying into Jack about his increasingly problematic drinking, which causes him to mock her desire to start a music career at 40. The hour, titled “Moonshadow,” was directed by Ken Olin.
“In the middle of a take, things were kind of going in a direction. I think I, as Jack, was feeling it, and I was a little defensive,” Ventimiglia says in the video above, while his This Is Us co-stars (and That Was Us hosts) Moore, Sterling K. Brown and Chris Sullivan laugh.
“It got hot. It got a little heated,” Moore agrees.
