'This Is Us' and 'OITNB' help Postal Service get popular on 'Last Week Tonight'
On Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, the host asked This Is Us to help increase the U.S. Postal Service‘s popularity by subtly incorporating educational messages into the storyline of Jack’s still mysterious death. In a scene, Jack asked Rebecca if she’d brought in the mail, to which she said, “I did, and once again, no suspicious or fraudulent packages in it.” Jack replied, “Wow, it’s a good thing we have a postal inspection service or I could be killed by a mail bomb one day.”
With This Is Us NOT dropping any bombshell revelations on Jack’s death, Jack continued, “A mail bomb is definitely not how I die one day … I’m going to live forever. I’m a f***ing invincible god.”
Oliver was inspired to help the USPS out after discovering a program on CBS called The Inspectors. With a budget funded by the government, The Inspectors tries to make the Postal Service cool but maybe not cool enough. RuPaul’s Drag Race and Orange Is the New Black also joined in on the fun to increase the USPS’s cool factor.
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver airs Sundays at 11 p.m. on HBO.
