Usher’s Son Stole His Dad’s Phone to DM a Favorite Celebrity & It Went Better Than Expected
Usher’s son just had a dream come true — and all it took was a little thievery. The singer — who shares teen sons Usher “Cinco” and Naviyd with ex-wife Tameka Foster and toddlers Sovereign and Sire with wife Jenn Goicoechea — just detailed the hilarious story of how Naviyd took over his social media.
Usher explained on his Instagram Stories that when he checked his DMs earlier this week, he saw messages with someone with a Powerpuff girl as their profile photo. “So I’m like the hell is this,” the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer said.

“I open it and I’m like oh this boy done DMd this girl from my damn phone,” he wrote.
Naviyd had the brilliant plan to steal his dad’s phone, go into Instagram, and send his “favorite artist” a DM. All he was looking for was a follow. “Hello this is Usher’s son Naviyd I’m [your] true biggest fan,” the 15-year-old wrote to PinkPantheress. “Please follow me back ???????????????? @_naviyd_ I put [my dad] on to masterpieces??.”
The singer laughed, followed him, and liked his post, prompting Naviyd to say, “OMG I DIDNT THING U WERE GONNA SNWER,” too excited to notice (or care about) the typos.
When Usher saw the exchange, he quickly apologized to PinkPantheress saying, “I’m so sorry … my son is a super fan.” The 23-year-old told the “Yeah!” singer not to apologize and that she’d “love to host y’all at the next show.”
At first, Usher acted like Naviyd wasn’t allowed to go since he “did the MOST” to connect with her. “BUT … because my son is such a fan of her artistry … I decided to let him go …” he continued with a smiley face emoji.
Not only did Naviyd go to the show, but he met PinkPantheress and they made a video together. PinkPantheress and Usher even FaceTimed. Usher went on to share his “parental takeaway” from the experience. He said it was a “great moment” for his teen but that Naviyd broke their father-son trust by taking the phone.
“Nonetheless, I appreciate the hustle and him makin in [sic] happen,” the Grammy winner said. “From a text, to a concert, to the artist. He masterminded this whole thing and made it happen.”
Lucky for Naviyd, his dad respected the effort — and he got so much more than a follow.
