Usher’s Teenage Son Slid Into PinkPantheress’ DMs, Singer Issues Epic Dad Response
One of Usher’s teenage sons has taken full advantage of the perks associated with having a global superstar as a dad.
On Wednesday (April 24), the crooner shared a “quick story time” on how his 15-year-old son, Naviyd, “stole” his phone in order to get access to his favorite artist, PinkPantheress.
Earlier this month, Naviyd replied to one of her stories from his dad’s Instagram account, writing, “Hello this is Usher’s son Naviyd. I’m your true biggest fan. Please follow me back […] I put him on to masterpieces.”
The “Boy’s A Liar” singer replied, “hahahahaa this is wild!” When Usher checked his DMs and saw an exchange with “someone [who has] a Powerpuff girl as their profile pic,” his natural reaction was “the hell is this?” Ursher opened the message, thinking, “Oh this boy done DMed this girl from my damn phone…”
Her response also took Naviyd by surprise, but by then, Usher interjected—apologizing on his son’s behalf. PinkPantheress, on the other hand, was overjoyed by the interaction and invited them to one of her concerts. She’s currently headlining her own tour before joining Olivia Rodrigo this summer.
In true dad fashion, Usher had to flex his authority a bit by acting like his son wouldn’t be allowed to attend the show. As emphasis for the story’s sake, he used a gif of Denzel Washington in Training Day. In the end, the 45-year-old admitted, “I had to send him considering his level of dedication and creativity to figure out getting your attention through stealing my phone. That’s commitment.”
Backstage at the show, Naviyd shared photos of him meeting PinkPantheress and facetiming his father for good measure.
Usher’s “parental takeaway” from the hilariously wholesome and slightly deceptive exchange was that it was a “great moment” for Naviyd.
“This was him movin’ on something he was passionate about,” the Coming Home singer reflected. “Yes, he violated my trust in the process and for that I will never trust him around my phone, but I should have known better.”
He concluded, “Nonetheless, I appreciate the hustle and him makin’ it happen. From a text to a concert to the artist, he masterminded this whole thing and made it happen. #HustleHard.”
Usher’s eldest son, Cinco, shared on his own Instagram Stories that it “should’ve been Ice Spice,” but maybe another DM exchange isn’t too far away. We’re sure something is being negotiated in the Raymond household.
