Valarie Pettiford Joins ‘Young And The Restless’ Cast As New Amy Lewis
Valarie Pettiford is returning to daytime television for the first time in 30 years.
The TV veteran will become the new Amy Lewis on the long-running soap opera, The Young and The Restless. The role was first created by Stephanie E. Williams in 1983, per Deadline, and there’s currently no word on why Lewis is returning.
Pettiford will make her debut in her recurring role on Oct. 29. Her return to daytime comes after the 1990-1994 portrayal as Sheila Price on One Life To Live.
“SO THIS HAPPENED TODAY!!! SO HONORED TO APART OF THIS LEGENDARY SHOW WITH THIS LEGENDARY CAST!!! DEAR STEPHANIE E WILLIAMS THE AWESOME ORIGINATOR, I HOPE I MAKE YOU PROUD,” the actress wrote on Instagram when sharing the good news.
Pettiford is currently a series regular on the BET+ series, The Family Business and has a recurring role on the CBS hit series, The Equalizer. She also received three NAACP Image Award nominations for her role as Dee Dee Thorne on Half & Half.
She’s also appeared on shows including The Mandalorian, The Blacklist, The Baxters, and A Discovery of Witches, and starred in films like Jumping The Broom, Hip Hop Family Christmas, and Stomp The Yard.
In 1999, Pettiford received a Tony nomination for her role in the Broadway production of Fosse. Following that stint, she began directing and creating productions with business partners Mary Ann Lambs and Marissa Palley for live theater. The Queens native has also developed for television and film through her production company, Scared Flight Productions.
