The "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" Mid-Credits Scene Has Changed The Game

Venom: Let There Be Carnage touched down in theaters this past weekend. The sequel to the box-office smash hit for Sony took the symbiote story one step further by introducing Carnage.

Carnage is a brutal enemy

Portrayed by Woody Harrelson, Cletus Kasady is a serial killer who at first admires Eddie Brock, but then becomes his enemy. In the comics, the story is a little different, but one thing remains consistent: Carnage is born from Venom.

Let There Be Carnage is almost a rom-com mixed with an action flick. Cletus is fighting to reunite with his love, while Eddie deals with the fallout from his own relationship.

Eddie Brock and Venom have a moment

I truly believe this film was better than the first one and a good step for the franchise. It isn't a next-level piece of work, but it understood the assignment.

The moment fans can't stop talking about is THAT mid-credits scene. I suggest you read no further unless you're ready for spoilers.

Let There Be Carnage finally branches Sony's Marvel universe with that of Disney. We already knew this was coming based on the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer which featured Doc Ock from Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 2.

During the scene, Eddie and Venom enjoy a vacation while they bicker about knowledge. Just as Venom is about to school Eddie, a golden wave passes over what seems like the world and changes the details of everything.

So what does this all mean for Venom and Spider-Man?

Tom Holland

It means that two of the most popular Marvel characters now coexist and can feature in the same movies. Not only does this set up a major battle between Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Tom Hardy's Venom (or as I like to call it, The Battle of the Toms), it also changes everything!

Let's take a step back for a moment. This is the first time we have witnessed the effects of Loki in the "real world." Of course, we did witness Loki himself return to a much different TVA — however, that location exists outside of "reality."

Loki and Mobius sit at a table and discuss variants

In Loki, the titular character and his variant, Sylvie, re-establish the existence of the multiverse after the latter murders a variant of Kang the Conquerer. For a much more detailed explanation of that, head here.

However, the reformation of the multiverse alone wouldn't be enough to cause the different universes to merge. It appears that something Doctor Strange does in Spider-Man: No Way Home causes the different universes to meld together. The Let There Be Carnage mid-credits scene would be the first look at the consequences of these actions.

Now that Sony and Disney have merged universes, the possibilities are endless.

OR possibly Tom Holland's Spider-Man gets displaced into Sony's movie universe by the end of his film, essentially removing him from the MCU momentarily.

This would allow Sony to have full reign until the obligatory Avengers 5 team-up where Kang is poised to be the enemy. In this way, Sony gets to use Spidey in their upcoming villain flicks, like Kraven or Morbius, but Disney gets to have Spidey back for a multi-hero team-up when Kang inevitably becomes a villain that spans across several different universes.

In the mid-credits scene, we also see Venom display a curious attraction to Peter Parker. This may be laying the groundwork for the Symbiote Spider-Man suit.

The fact that J.J. Jameson in both Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man movies and Tom Holland's MCU flicks are essentially the same person also gave us a hint about variants early on.

In the same way that there are multiple Loki variants, it appears that the MCU gave us our first glimpse of a variant when they showed us Jameson in the MCU. What other variants from the Sony films do you think will pop up in the MCU?

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is an alley-oop for Spider-Man: No Way Home to begin the villain mix-up madness. Venom may join Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, and others in the third MCU Spidey flick.

Venom leaps through the city

So many people assume we're getting Spidey variants (Tobey, Tom, and Andrew all in one film), but little has been said about villain variants. Could there be more than one Doc Ock? Or could both Willem Dafoe's and Dane DeHaan's Green Goblins show up? Will Eddie Brock run into his MCU variant? We will soon find out!
