VIBE On-Site: Everyone Who Hit The Court At The Monster Energy BIG3 Celebrity Game
TD Garden in Boston, MA, filled with excited basketball fans waiting to see their favorite BIG3 players and celebrities tip off this past Sunday (Aug. 18).
The Monster Energy BIG3 Celebrity Game, co-founded by Ice Cube, welcomed stars from sports and entertainment to show off their skills on the court including: Gillie Da Kid and Wallo, Ty Dolla $ign, Anthony Anderson, Matt James, French Montana, Fabolous, Flau’Jae Johnson, Vernon Davis, Ty Law, The Professor, Michael Blackson, Skilla Baby, and Briana Green.
Led by Ice Cube, Team Webull went up against Clyde Drexler’s Team Green, with the latter taking the W over the former. And for the third year in a row, Million Dollaz Worth of Game co-host Gillie Da Kid was crowned MVP.
Aside from the Celebrity, All-Star, and Championship games, attendees were treated to performances by Treach of Naughty By Nature, Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul, the BIG3 dancers, Monster Energy hypegirls, and a full-on dunk competition featuring the BIG3 tricksters. Of all, the goal of this year’s game was to “compete in the name of goodwill,” while raising money and awareness for underprivileged youth and other important causes.
“We want to entertain, but this game is kind of a special event in that we come together to do goodwill,” stated Event Producer and Founder of Idol Roc, Steven Ferraro, to VIBE. “We have an eclectic mix of talent. When you look at the roster of the people that participate, you have professional athletes, you have musicians, you have actors, comedians. Some of the games in our past we’ve had UFC fighters, wrestlers. So it’s a broad range of people that come together. It’s competitive, it’s fun, and it is all in the name of goodwill.”
He continued, “What we do is we make the first $25,000 in donations for charity, and we support individual celebrities’ causes. So we want everyone to come and say what is something that they care about… What is something that they are passionate about, and we make various donations to their causes.”
