‘Vice Principals’ Premiere Recap: My Enemy’s Enemy
Vice Principals premiered on HBO Sunday night. The new series is about two vice principals, played by Danny McBride and Walton Goggins, who are vying for the same job as head principal.
McBride stars as Neal Gamby, a down-on-his-luck man who is not much liked by either his co-workers or family. Gamby’s nemesis is Lee Russell, played by Goggins. Russell is an effeminate man who seems to have everything going for him, as he is liked by all.

When the school’s principal (Bill Murray) leaves to tend to his sick wife, the superintendent hires an outside principal by the name of Dr. Belinda Brown. Neither Gamby nor Russell is pleased with this announcement, and they agree to put aside their beef in order to take her down. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
The pilot was as irreverent as McBride and co-creator Jody Hill’s last HBO series, Eastbound & Down.
Vice Principals airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. on HBO.
