The View Will Skip Annual Halloween Dress-Up, Days Ahead of Presidential Election — Find Out Why
The hosts of The View will not be playing make-believe this Halloween, so as to better focus on the final days leading up to the presidential election (on Tuesday, Nov. 5).
In the latest episode of the BTS podcast Behind the Table, producer Brian Teta told listeners (and ostensibly co-host Joy Behar, for the first time), “I’m going to announce something today that’s going to upset a portion of the audience, but I think it’s going to make you (Joy) happy. This year, because it’s only a few days before the election and we need to be live, the hosts are not going to dress up for Halloween.”

“Good,” was the instant reaction from Behar, who explained that donning elaborate costumes for the holiday, as the hosts have done for “28 straight years,” is “always annoying for us.”
Teta maintained that the annual event and costumes is “iconic” and “great,” so “I’ll try to bring it back next year. But the problem is [that] those shows are a huge undertaking, we have to do them on tape, and part of what our show has become, and what it is right now, we can’t be on tape three days before the election.”
Behar concurred, “Not before the election. It’s too important.
“I don’t mean to be grandiose,” she added, “but we do have some influence on people’s thinking. We need to use every single minute on this show to inform the public about how dangerous [former president/Republican nominee Donald J. Trump] is.”
Dressing up for Halloween is an annual tradition for a wide array of daytime talkers — and even NBC’s Today. Reps for Live With Kelly & Mark (where Ripa and husband Consuelous famously change in and out of multiple costumes), Today and The Jennifer Hudson Show tell TVLine they are sticking with their usual plans for Halloween, while CBS’ The Talk will bring back its Rocktober costumed lip-sync event.
We have also reached out to The Kelly Clarkson Show to check in on their plans for Thursday, Oct. 31.
