‘The View’ Skips Halloween Costumes But Can’t Exorcise Trump’s Nightmarish Bedevilment
UDPATE, with additional video: No costumes, but The View didn’t ignore Halloween this year, opening the show with a pre-taped dream sketch in which each of the hosts, bored to tears at a morning staff meeting as producer Brian Teta drones on and on about his podcast, dozes off and has a Trump-inspired nightmare.

For Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin, a shared nightmare had them running through the streets of Manhattan during a Purge-like event, as Trump’s voice speaks of the benefits of “one real, rough nasty day.” Finally, the cohosts come up with the concept of a plan for escape.
Next up was Ana Navarro, lounging on a cruise ship reading Ricky Martin’s memoir when suddenly she’s forced to choose between sharks and electrocution, one of Trump’s weirder fantasy scenarios. “I’m not even on the show today,” Navarro gripes. “What bitch is dreaming of me?”
Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin desperately search for their pets – Behar’s dog Bernie, Hostin’s chickens – as Trump warns, “They’re eating the dogs! They’re eating the pets.”
“What has that convicted felon done with my dog?” Behar demands, while Hostin, taking a quick pause in her panic, says “I have a legal note: No animals were harmed or eaten during this segment, or anywhere else in America.”
Waking up back at the morning meeting with Teta still yapping on, the cohosts are joined by a tardy Whoopi Goldberg, all done up as Trump’s favorite bogeyman Hannibal Lecter. “What’s the big deal?” she says. “I’m just having people over for dinner.”
With all that out of the way, the show resumed live, with the non-costumed hosts diving into today’s Hot Topic No. 1: Donald Trump’s “garbage man” stunt.
The View announced earlier this month that it would break its 28-year tradition of having the hosts made up in elaborate Halloween costumes, opting instead to go live – the costume episodes had to be taped in advance – so as not to miss out on the day’s news so close to the presidential election.
Later in today’s episode, the show did a brief Boo Are You Wearing? segment with kids dressed in costumes reflecting the year’s Hot Topics. Several nodded to the Paris Olympics, one dressed as Pommel Horse Guy Stephen Nedoroscik, another as Snoop Dogg and a third as bad breaker Raygun. There was the inevitable mini-Kamala and mini-Trump, several Vance-inspired Single Cat Ladies and, best of all, a pint-sized Anna Delvey, all dressed up for Dancing With The Stars complete with bedazzled electronic ankle monitor.
