This past weekend, Disney fans gathered at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, where they were met with news about upcoming projects in the Disney sphere. Here, take a look at a few of the biggest announcements regarding the Disney Parks, including the exciting news about Disney villains.

Villains are headed to Magic Kingdom

That’s right, folks! Your favorite fierce characters, known for their bad behavior and menacing ways, are headed to Magic Kingdom in Orlando’s Disney World. The new land is said to feature two new attractions, as well as dining and shopping. Details have been kept under wraps as of publication, but Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said, “We will completely, around the world, bring new stories to life in innovative ways for our fans.”

Magic Kingdom will also evolve to include a new land that brings to life the fun of Pixar’s Cars franchise. This new area of the park is also set to feature two brand new attractions, with construction said to begin next year. Dissimilar to Cars Land in Disneyland’s California Adventure in Anaheim, the Magic Kingdom’s Cars addition will remain a part of Frontierland.

Hollywood Studios is getting monstrous

Mike, Sully and the Monsters, Inc. gang are headed to Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in their own little section of the park, which will also feature a brand-new suspended roller coaster.

Monsters remains one of the most beloved stories that Pixar has ever told,” D’Amaro said during D23 of the major attractions in the works based on the hit film. “Our fans absolutely love it, and we knew we had an opportunity to bring to life this franchise in a way that it’s never been brought to life before and extend the story from the screen into real life.”

Animal Kingdom will feature 2 new fan favorites in the re-imagined DinoLand USA

The beloved dino-themed section of the Disney World Park will be revamped as Tropical Americas, with an Indiana Jones and an Encanto themed attraction. It is expected to open in 2027.

Disneyland in California is getting its own revamp as well

While Disney World in Orlando will be getting its own set of upgrades, the Anaheim, California, parks will as well. Not only will Disneyland California Adventure Park’s Avenger’s Campus be getting a major upgrade and expansion that includes two new attractions, but a few Orlando-based fan-favorites will make their way across the country as well. A version of the popular Avatar attraction at Disney World Orlando’s Animal Kingdom will be established in  California, as will the first ride at any Disney park dedicated to the hit movie Coco.

As for the Disneyland Park, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which just recently debuted at Disney World, will open on November 15, 2024. And that’s not all — A Walt Disney animatronic will make its debut at a new show in the park in 2025, as it marks its 70th anniversary.
