Hundreds of the biggest names in music and pop culture descended upon New York's UBS Arena tonight for this year's VMAs, capping off an eventful New York Fashion Week. The VMAs turned 40 years old this year, and the milestone ceremony kicked off with an electric Pre-Show and stunning black carpet, featuring a performance from international sensations LE SSERAFIM.

The K-pop group was nominated for MTV Push Performance of the Year — which they won! — their very first VMAs nomination. The group joined more than 20 other acts and musicians as first-time nominees, including Tyla, Benson Boone, Shaboozey, Chappell Roan, RAYE, Coco Jones, Gracie Abrams, Burna Boy, NCT Dream, Gunna, Rauw Alejandro, Sexyy Red, Victoria Monét, and many, many more.
Then after the Pre-Show, the VMAs did what the VMAs do best, of course: Sabrina Carpenter kissed an alien (and liked it), Chappell Roan transformed into Roan of Arc and set a castle ablaze, Megan Thee Stallion served double duty as host and performer, and Taylor Swift broke records, plural.
Swift led the nominations this year with 12 total nods. Swift has officially broken Beyoncé’s record for the most VMAs ever won: Bey's current record is 25 VMAs as a solo artist and 29 overall wins, excluding her special honor as a recipient of the Vanguard Award in 2014. Per VegasInsider, with Swift winning 7 awards in total during this year's ceremony, she is now the most awarded artist at the VMAs as a solo artist and the most awarded artist in VMAs history overall with a total of 30 competitive wins.

Swift has also almost broken Peter Gabriel's record for winning the most VMAs in one night: Gabriel set the record with 10, and at the 2023 VMAs, Swift won 9, becoming the female artist with the most VMA wins in a single night. She racked up less at the 2024 VMAs with 7 in one night, but phew…
The VMAs had 15 main gender-neutral categories this year and 4 cutthroat social categories. Ready to see if your faves are winners? Keep scrolling to check out the complete list of VMAs 2024 winners.
