‘Voice’ Contestant Proposes to Girlfriend Backstage
Christian Cuevas has had a pretty good couple of weeks. Not only did the 20-year-old singer from Orlando, Fla., make it into the Top 11 on The Voice, but he also just got engaged! Following last week’s show, Christian got down on one knee backstage and proposed to his girlfriend, Elaine. Christian said, “You’re my best friend and the love of my life. That’s why I want it to be forever. Elaine, will you marry me?” Elaine, obviously, replied with a joyful, “Yes, of course!”
While Christian’s proposal stood out from the night, the show isn’t called The Proposal — it’s called The Voice, and it was obvious Christian had a little more joy in his voice when he sang “Rosanna” by Toto.
Other standout performances of the night included Billy Gilman singing Adele’s “All I Ask,” Austin Allsup channeling Bob Seger with “Turn the Page,” and Sundance Head taking a risk with “No One” by Alicia Keys … and the risk paid off. Alicia said, “You just made me listen to my song in a whole new way, in a way that I personally need right now. And I just want to thank you, because it gave me such a beautiful feeling.”
While Alicia had a beautiful feeling, Aaron Gibson was experiencing a little more pain when he sang “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails. And young Wé McDonald ended the show on a more positive note with Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain.”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
