‘The Voice’ season 24 episode 23 recap: Who was eliminated in ‘Live Semi-Final Results’? [Updating Live Blog]
Tonight on “The Voice,” the voting results from Monday night’s live performances are revealed. Four artists are voted through and five compete for the instant save. In the end, just five singers will make it to next week’s live finale and compete for the title. Also, coaches John Legend and Niall Horan take the stage for special performances.
The four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series returns with the strongest vocalists from across the country invited to compete in the show’s newest season, which premiered September 25 on NBC. The show’s innovative format features five stages of competition: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs and Live Performance Shows.

Below, read our minute-by-minute “The Voice” recap of Season 24, Episode 23 to find out what happened Tuesday, December 12 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. 9:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘The Voice’!” In episode 22, the top nine artists performed solo and in trios for coaches Niall Horan, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani. Now, it’ time to find out which five will advance to the Season 24 finale!
9:01 p.m. – Carson Daly started the night by introducing Niall’s performance of the title track from his new album, “The Show,” with a special feature from John playing piano and contributing vocals as he does on the special edition version of the album.
9:05 p.m. – Next, Carson brought the top nine artists out on the state to reveal the name of the first finalist. Prior to the result, Huntley dropped the advice that “everything shall pass” and to not let life’s set backs throw you off track. Lila called it an honor to get to close the show with the Joni song last night especially during the holiday season. Jordan had a big “thank you” for her support and community back home in Oklahoma. The first artist saved by the overnight vote and advancing to next week’s finale was Lila Forde! That’s one finalist for Team Legend.
9:10 p.m. – Reba told Carson that she’s nervous tonight, but also excited and she’s “having a blast doing this.” Niall said that song choice is an important part of the competition because it is what gives them the confidence to perform in front of the country. Gwen was surprised by the “love fest” that has developed between her and Bias because she wasn’t even sure she’d turn her button during his blind audition. John said that the talent this season has made it “the best season” he’s been involved in and he stresses to his team to just be the best version of themselves they can be.
9:12 p.m. – Bias thanked the country and Gwen for allowing him to be who he is as an artist because he realizes that he’s a unique personality. Mac gave a “big love” heart out to any new fans that have been drawn to him this season. Ruby mentioned that opportunities don’t come easy to people like her from a small town so she’s grateful to have had the experience of the show. With that, the next two artists to advance to the finale based on America’s vote were Huntley and Ruby Leigh! That makes it one finalist each for John, Niall and Reba so far.
9:20 p.m. – We took a break from results to welcome John back to the stage for a special performance of the song “What Christmas Means to Me” from his holiday album “A Legendary Christmas.”
9:24 p.m. – Mara is thankful that the audience got to see her grow on the show and she hopes to display a softer side of herself next week. Jacquie sent a message of love and support to her daughters. Nini said that being on the show and as a member of Team Niall has taught her to be a great storyteller. The last artist saved by the vote and advancing straight to the finale was Mara Justine! That gives Team Niall the edge with two finalists. The remaining five artists would sing live to earn the fifth spot in the finale.
9:30 p.m. – In the showcase of performances to earn the Instant Save, Nini Iris sang “Mad World” and Bias sang “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”
9:41 p.m. – Jacquie Roar sang “Alone,” Jordan Rainer sang “I Don’t Dance,” and Mac Royals closed with “I Wanna Know.”
9:55 p.m. – Once the live voting window closed, Carson revealed that the artist that earned the fifth and final spot in next week’s finale was Jacquie Roar! That gives Reba two artists, Niall two artists, John one artist, and Gwen will sit the finale out.
