‘Walking Dead’ Ahead: What’s With Rick’s Smile?

It’s time for Walking Dead Ahead. So, let’s start this one with a question… why was Rick smiling at the end of Sunday’s The Walking Dead?

Rick probably saw someone he knew, perhaps Gabriel, who I’m pretty sure was kidnapped and didn’t just run away. Notice this hooded dude sitting up in the front seat? Looks like he’s a member of these hooded Trash People. And yes, they are Trash People, they live in a garbage dump and Marjory the Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock is their leader. Okay, that last part is a lie.

Some have suggested that this new community might be The Whisperers from the comics. But they lack the most important aspect of the Whisperers aesthetic — their walker-skin disguises! I doubt that Greg Nicotero, a special effects wizard, would skimp out on a gory detail like that.

Rick is most likely smiling because he was brought to a new army of recruits, and although they may be a tough sell now, give Rick and that charming smile a chance to work a little magic, and they’ll all be Team Alexandria soon enough.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
