'The Walking Dead': An A-to-Z poster of the show's iconography
To celebrate the Oct. 22 Season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead — the series’ 100th episode — Yahoo TV will be posting a new TWD-related story every day through the season opener.
Children have alphabet posters for their walls. We decided there should be a more grown-up version for fans of The Walking Dead. Here it is: the complete A to Z of TWD iconography (and yes, we even came up with something for X!) that you can download and print out.
A is for Alexandria: The Virginia apocalyptic haven Rick’s group hopes to make its home for a long, long time.
B is for Bisquick: The delightful euphemism Abraham deploys to ask Glenn if he and Maggie had gotten pregnant on purpose, and the inspiration for actor Michael Cudlitz’s fan convention food drives.
C is for Colt Python: Rick Grimes’s signature gun.
D is for Dumpster: The trash receptacle that miraculously saves Glenn’s life. For a while, anyway.
E is for Eugene’s Mullet: The “Tennessee top hat,” the “Tennessee waterfall,” the “billowy curtain catching the breeze.”
F is for Flower: The Cherokee rose Daryl gives Carol after Sophia goes missing, and the object Carol tells Lizzie to look at while she puts the ill, dangerous girl to (permanent) sleep.
G is for Gremblygunk: The sloth-like stuffed animal Eugene snags while shopping at the Sanctuary market, and which seems to become his security blanket (and perhaps contraband hiding place?).
H is for Hat: The beloved, and ever present, sheriff’s hat Carl was gifted from his dad.
I is for Iron: It’s what Negan heats up to burn the face of any Savior male who dares to get too close to one of Negan’s wives (even if they were those men’s wives pre-apocalypse).
J is for Just Survive Somehow: The phrase orphaned Enid repeats to herself to stay alive until she joins up with the Alexandrians, and an all-around fine philosophy for life in the world of the undead.
K is for Knife Hand: The nifty contraption Merle sports after he chops his hand off when Rick and company left him chained to the roof of a walker-filled building in downtown Atlanta.
L is for Lucille: The barbed-wire-covered bat that is Negan’s best friend, and everyone else’s worst nightmare.
M is for Mustache: The bright orange facial fur that covers the one area where Abraham Ford never goes “dolphin smooth.”
N is for Necklace: The accessory Daryl fashions for himself from the souvenir ears he cut off some walkers he killed.
O is for Oceanside: The community of mostly female survivors whose weapons cache Rick and company swipe, and who we’re very likely to see again.
P is for Pocket Watch: The very personal possession Hershel gives to his future son-in-law to let Glenn know he thinks he is a fine love match for Maggie.
Q is for Quarry Herd: The swarm of walkers who create a multi-episode ruckus for the Alexandrians at the beginning of Season 6.
R is for RV: Dale’s beloved home on wheels.
S is for Spaghetti Tuesdays: Hershel jokes this should happen every Wednesday … if they can find some spaghetti.
T is for Terminus: The alleged “sanctuary for all” community that was actually full of cannibals!
U is for Undead: Aka biters, walkers, growlers, lamebrains, geeks, creepers, roamers, rotters, deadheads, deadies, and lurkers.
V is for Vest: That angel-wings-festooned garment that keeps Daryl Dixon cool in the Southern heat.
W is for Winslow: The spiky, ridiculously cool metal-covered walker that makes us wonder, “Why don’t they build a whole army of those things?”
X is for Xyresic: It means “sharp as a razor,” as in Michonne’s signature katana.
Y is for Yamaha: Some Yamaha parts are included in Daryl’s custom-made motorcycle (the one Dwight dared to steal in Season 6).
Z is for Zookeeper: King Ezekiel’s pre-apocalyse profession, and the job that pairs him up with pet tiger Shiva.
The Walking Dead Season 8 premieres Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
