Marking Gyllenhaal’s follow-up to the Academy Award-nominated Netflix drama The Lost Daughter, The Bride! watches as a lonely Frankenstein (Christian Bale) travel to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.
Pic’s starry ensemble also includes Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz, Julianne Hough, John Magaro, Jeannie Berlin and Jake Gyllenhaal. Maggie Gyllenhaal directed from her own script and produced alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff (Joker, The Irishman), Talia Kleinhendler (The Lost Daughter) and Osnat Handelsman-Keren (The Lost Daughter). Carla Raij (Maestro, The Fablemans) served as exec producer.
Launching with James Wan’s The Conjuring in 2013, the franchise of the same name is inspired by the real-life cases of paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga). Over the last decade-plus, a number of sequels, spin-offs and prequels have followed, including The Conjuring 2, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Annabelle and its sequels, The Nun and its sequel, and The Curse of La Llorona. Collectively, these films have grossed over $2.1 billion worldwide, making The Conjuring one of the highest-grossing horror franchises in film history.
While the plot of the final Conjuring film is under wraps, franchise veteran Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) is directing from a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Wan and Peter Safran are back to produce, having served as producers on all past films in the franchise.
