The Grammys cover a broad range of genres, and as the musical landscape constantly evolves, so too do the awards. This year a number of changes were made to categories and procedures. For instance, Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical expanded by lowering the minimum required songwriting credits from five to four. Best Remixed Recording was moved from the production, engineering, composition, and arrangement field to the pop and dance/electronic field. Read more about the Grammy changes here.

The Recording Academy has also touted its progress in expanding and diversifying its membership by increasing the number of women, people of color, and young people in the organization. For instance, in the last five years the number of female Grammy voters has increased by 3,000, though women still only make up 29% of the voting body. “We are not at our ultimate destination yet, but the Recording Academy membership has never been more reflective of the music community than it is today,” said academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. at the time. Come tomorrow there will be even more to celebrate.
