Watch CNN staffers evacuate live on air as fire alarm blares amid bomb scare

Typically, a fire alarm going off midbroadcast is a funny fluke that makes for a viral video. But Wednesday on CNN, it became much more serious.

This morning, it was reported that explosive devices were sent to former President Barack Obama and presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Not long after that, CNN’s offices in the Time Warner Center in New York City were evacuated after CNN too received a suspicious package.

CNN news anchors Jim Sciutto and Poppy Harlow were reporting on the suspicious packages sent to Clinton and Obama when their fire alarm went off. At the time, they appeared not to know it was tied to the suspicious package sent to their building.

In the background of their live shot, you can even see CNN staffers apparently evacuating from the building. After a commercial break, the network switched to its Washington broadcast, where Rene Marsh updated viewers about the evacuation. Sciutto and Harlow continued their reporting from the sidewalks of New York.

As for the other suspicious packages, nobody was harmed and the explosives never arrived at the Obamas and Clintons’ homes; the packages were intercepted before they got there.

The motivation of the would-be bomber, or bombers, is unclear.
