Watch Kevin Smith and Harley Quinn Smith Make Each Other Cry During 'Yoga Hosers' Chat
Things got real — real emotional — during a recent visit to Yahoo Studios by Yoga Hosers father-daughter tandem Kevin Smith and Harley Quinn Smith.
We asked Harley Quinn (yes, she named after the Suicide Squad anti-heroine) to interview her writer-director father (he of Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob fame) and the tears started flowing moments after H.Q. asked Kevin who his favorite actor has been to work with (watch the video above).
The reliably entertaining storyteller explained why it was, in fact, his daughter. Kevin said he had become somewhat disaffected with filmmaking, especially after going to war with critics over his poorly received 2010 action-comedy Cop Out.
He was in the midst of filming Tusk (2014), the horror-comedy that marked the first entry in his “Great White Trilogy” and the movie that preceded Yoga Hosers, when he invited Harley Quinn and her best friend, Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny Depp), to have play small roles in the film.
“And that’s where everything changed, that’s where you became my favorite performer of all time,” the elder Smith said, recalling his delight at witnessing his daughter’s acting chops. “Because you were the difference-maker. I let go of all that bitter s–t that I held onto for so long. The me-versus-them, and chip-on-my-shoulder artist s–t.”
Kevin went home and told his wife, and Harley Quinn’s mother, “‘I think my daughter saved me today… I think she may be my salvation. That kid made it fun again. I felt like I was 21. It was a huge moment for me.’
The waterworks were already in effect when Kevin told Harley Quinn, “You made me want to be a better filmmaker more than anyone in this world, because I was like, ‘Oh, I can be useful again.’ So because of that, you’re my favorite performer.”
Yoga Hosers is now in theaters. Watch the trailer:
