Watch Lauryn Hill, YG Marley Perform Collaborative Medley on ‘Fallon’
Lauryn Hill and her son YG Marley appeared on The Tonight Show to perform a medley of three songs, “Ex-Factor,” “Survival,” and “Praise Jah in the Moonlight.” The duo was accompanied by a live band and three back-up singers for the dynamic, soulful performance.
Marley, Hill’s son with Rohan Marley, has been performing with her onstage since childhood. “Ex-Factor” comes off Hill’s 1998 LP, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, while Marley released “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” in 2023 and dropped “Survival” this week. The new track shares songwriting credits with Hill and his grandfather Bob Marley, who released an album of the same name in 1979.

Marley previously debuted “Survival” during his set at Coachella last month, tapping Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Busta Rhymes for the festival performance.
Last year, Hill announced she would be hitting the road with the Fugees in celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The tour was hit was a series of cancelations, however, when Hill suffered vocal strain only two days in. In October, she called off her show in Fort Worth, Texas, after previously postponing a concert in Philadelphia. She later took a break from the tour altogether, explaining to fans, “In order to prevent any long-term negative affect on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.”
Rolling Stone reviewed the Oct. 17 tour opener at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center, calling the performance “legendary.” “Her renditions of ‘Nothing Even Matters,’ ‘Doo Wop (That Thing),’ and ‘You’re Just to Be Good to Be True’ were exceptional,” the review says. “All of her verses were more palpable just by virtue of her vocals cutting through the instrumentation. ‘To Zion’ may have been the highlight of the night, as she sang about her first pregnancy and her son Zion as if she had just written the song.”
Hill’s appearance at Coachella in April was a surprise to fans. Onstage she performed her songs “Ex-Factor” and “Lost Ones,” and was joined by Jean for the Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly With His Song” and “Ready or Not.”
