Ludacris, still enthusiastically promoting his new album Ludaversal and film Furious 7, returned to the Tonight Show last night (April 2) for another session with the Roots.

Album Review: Ludacris’ ‘Ludaversal’ Is His Moodiest Yet

Rather than perform one of his new tracks, Luda brought back a fan favorite: 2000’s “What’s Your Fantasy.” This time, though, the rapper got a little intimate, taking his performance from the soundstage back to the dressing room. Backed by a very pared down, acoustic version of the Roots, Luda performed the classic with no audience except a couple optimally placed GoPros.

It’s a low-key, bedroom friendly version of what’s normally a dancefloor banger — 15 years after the song’s release, it’s pretty clear that Ludacris, whose trademark flow is as effortless as ever, could rap these lyrics upside-down and backwards, probably in his sleep.

Luda also sat down for an interview with a newfound relative: author A.J. Jacobs, who is tracing his family tree in hopes of organizing a “Global Family Reunion.” Ludacris (a.k.a. Chistopher Bridges) is Jacobs’ cousin 38 times removed (surprising they never bumped into each other at any family functions!). In the interview, Jacobs shared some of the rapper’s other unlikely relatives, like a Harlem Globetrotter, a Jewish great-great grandfather named Luther Smith, and Richard Pryor (!).
