Like cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is part of what makes the holiday. This year you can watch the 92nd annual event right here on Yahoo Entertainment.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern on Nov. 22, thousands of performers will march through Manhattan, bringing with them dozens of incredible giant balloon floats and a slew of celebrities, including you-know-who.
Here’s a closer look at what to expect:
Kelly Clarkson, Diana Ross and John Legend lead a star-studded cast of thousands
As always, the lineup for the parade is packed with celebs, many of whom will perform. Some of this year’s big names: Kelly Clarkson, Diana Ross and her family, including Tracee Ellis Ross, Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson; John Legend; Leona Lewis; Ally Brooke; the members of Sugarland; the Barenaked Ladies; Ashley Tisdale; Ella Mai; Anika Noni Rose; Kane Brown; the cast of Sesame Street and, of course, Santa Claus. Today regulars Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker will host, as millions watch from the streets of New York City or from home.
The parade will look different to its millions (and millions) of viewers
While the Macy’s spectacular has entertained most years since 1924 — it was canceled in 1942, 1943 and 1944 because of World War II — the look of it has changed in the past two years. Viewers watching it from a desktop computer will have a 360-degree view of the action, just like the 3.5 million people expected to watch it go by on the streets of NYC.
These balloons and floats are so 2018
The parade has been around for nearly 100 years, but it’s always changing. This year the lineup of giant balloons includes Dr. Seuss’s the Grinch, from the new movie, and the elves from Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles will also take part in the festivities. The upcoming animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be represented on one of several new floats. In all, the 2018 parade will feature 16 giant character balloons, 43 novelty balloons, 26 floats, 1,200 cheerleaders and dancers, more than 1,000 clowns and 12 marching bands.
The parade is served best with pumpkin pie.
