Watch the moment on 'Fox & Friends First' that seemed to inspire Trump's 'smocking gun' tweet
A brief moment on Monday’s Fox and Friends First might have been the catalyst for an early-morning tweet from President Trump.
“Democrats can’t find their smoking gun to tie the Trump campaign to Russia after James Comey’s testimony,” guest host Carley Shimkus said, heading into a commercial break.
Shortly thereafter, Trump tweeted about a smoking gun — but spelled it “smocking” instead of “smoking” on two occasions.
Some tried to tell the president that he made a spelling error.
But #SmockingGun was quickly trending on Twitter, and reactions came in from celebrities like actor and director Zach Braff and comedian Kathy Griffin.
And because this isn’t the first time Trump has confused people with odd words in tweets, there were callbacks to earlier remarks and spelling flubs.
But maybe, as some have suggested, Trump tweets these words and phrases on purpose.
Fox & Friends First airs weekdays at 4 a.m. on Fox News.
