With Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night now out in theaters, many viewers may find themselves on the edge of their seats and wanting to see what happened in the very first episode of Saturday Night Live.
Saturday Night follows the 90 minutes leading up to SNL’s first-ever broadcast on the evening of Oct. 11, 1975, ending just before all the cast were set to go on air. Starring Gabriel LaBelle, Rachel Sennott, Ella Hunt, Dylan O’Brien, LaMorne Morris, Finn Wolfhard, Nicholas Braun, Cooper Hoffman and others, the film arrived in theaters a week before the actual 50thanniversary, on which the film will be released wide.

Only one streaming service has all 50 seasons of Saturday Night Live available for streaming, and that is Peacock.
The inaugural sketch comedy episode featured George Carlin and musical guests Billy Preston and Janis Ian, and it can be found at the very beginning of the streamer’s SNL catalog.

How did the SNL structure change after the first episode?
The sketch comedy show evolved to later include a monologue, which wasn’t set for the first episode. Instead, Carlin had four standup segments, and there were four musical performances.
