Just when you think there’s no room left for small, quietly beautiful stories amidst big-budget productions that require years for each new season to come to fruition, you’re reminded of the brilliance of “Somebody Somewhere.” The third and final season of one of HBO’s brightest gems debuts this weekend, and while there may be temptation to put off watching these seven new episodes so the magic they bring can last that much longer, you don’t want to miss out on what has become one of TV’s most emotionally fulfilling watches.

In the Season 3 premiere, which airs Sunday at 10:30/11:30c on HBO and Max, Sam (Bridget Everett) has settled into her tiny Midwestern community and a new job, but finds she now must overcome yet another hurdle when her best friend Joel (Jeff Hiller) decides to sell his house and move in with his boyfriend (Tim Bagley). With its poignant insight into friendship and human connection, “Somebody Somewhere” is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

However, if you’re looking for a little thrill and excitement until then, other contenders include:

  • “What We Do in the Shadows”: All good things must end, even Emmy-winning comedy series about a group of vampires living together on Staten Island. While it hurts to know this is the excellent show’s final season, the Season 6 premiere, “The Return of Jerry,” is another hilariously good time, as the gang’s long-lost roommate returns. But the fun doesn’t stop there, as the first three episodes of the season are now streaming on Hulu.

  • “The Old Man”: The second season of FX’s action-packed drama starring Oscar winner Jeff Bridges and six-time Emmy winner John Lithgow comes to an end this week, with the former escaping death by the skin of his teeth. But not everything is wrapped up in a neat little bow, as the finale sets up a potential third season in which Dan (Bridges) and Emily (Alia Shawkat) team up for a new rescue mission. Although FX has yet to renew the series, the gripping Season 2 finale is now streaming on Hulu.

  • “The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox”: If you’re like half the country and want nothing to do with a Yankees-Dodgers World Series, travel back in time to 2004 to relive the end of one of baseball’s longest championship droughts, as manager Terry Francona and the Boston Red Sox reversed a so-called curse in exhilarating fashion. Featuring archival footage and interviews with multiple players, including David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, and Kevin Millar, this docuseries is must-see TV even when you know how it ends. All three episodes are now streaming on Netflix.
