Waxahatchee, Amos Lee, Sheer Mag, More Headlining Philly Music Fest

PHILADELPHIA — Philly Music Fest will take place over seven days in October at six venues in and around Philadelphia, featuring headliners Waxahatchee, Amos Lee, Mondo Cozmo, Catbite, and more.

The festival will run from Oct. 21 to Oct. 27, with shows at Ardmore Music Hall, Underground Arts, World Café Live, Johnny Brenda's, Milkboy, and Solar Myth.

Festival organizers just announced Waxahatchee as a headliner on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Ardmore Music Hall, marking her second appearance at the only all Philly music festival. The group @ will support Waxahatchee at that show.

"We are beyond excited to welcome Waxahatchee back to Philly Music Fest," Philly Music Fest founder and Producer Greg Seltzer said. "Katie [Crutchfield, of Waxahatchee] wrote so many amazing songs while living in Philly and despite the move to Kansas City, we’ll always consider Katie a Philadelphian. Waxahatchee played a solo acoustic set at Philly Music Fest in 2018, but the show at Ardmore Music Hall will be full band. We’re honored that Katie and her team recognize what Philly Music Fest is doing - helping local musicians and raising money for music education. This will likely be the smallest room Waxahatchee will ever play in Philly, we’re so psyched."

Other headliners are Amos Lee, Slaughter Beach, Dog, Devon Gilfillian, Mondo Cozmo, Catbite, Reef The Lost Cauze, and Glass Band.

A full schedule and lineup of performers is below.

Philly Music Fest is a non-profit organization founded by a local husband and wife team, Greg and Jenn Seltzer that highlights the local music scene, then after paying all musicians and venues, PMF donates profits to music education programs for underprivileged kids.

Organizers estimate an annual economic impact of $500,000, including an annual donation to music education of $100,000.

Philly Music Fest also collaborates with WXPN on Inside Hustle, the only Philly music industry and networking event, which takes place twice per year, including the Saturday afternoon of Philly Music Fest, Oct. 26, at REC Philly. Inside Hustle has grown to attract over 400 attendees per session, including musicians, managers, agents, publicists, radio personnel, streaming experts, studio engineers and students.

Philly Music Fest started in 2017 at World Cafe Live, donating $15,000 to music education for kids.

It gradually expanded to a full week of shows featuring Philly musicians and now annually donates $100,000 to music education, after paying all musicians and venues.

Despite receiving donations from several local businesses, both large and small, along with individual donors including Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata and Connor Barwin, the festival maintains a strict policy of no corporate advertising or banners, assuring focus on the music and maintaining a DIY atmosphere.

In addition to the donations to music education, the festival established a microgrant fund in 2020, initially deploying over 330 microgrants to musicians suffering as a result of COVID-19, but now utilized to assist musicians with healthcare issues, as well as stolen gear or extreme financial distress.
