All the Ways That RHOP Season 8 Seems Scripted

Season 8 of the Real Housewives of Potomac is a real snooze fest. The whole episode flashed before my eyes, and it felt like it had just begun when the credit started rolling. The RHOP cast used to be dynamic, sharing their real-life struggles as the first all-Black Bravo franchise. The drama used to be shady, but now it is scripted, or at least feels like it. Let’s be honest, as die-hard Bravo viewers, drama is only fun to watch when it’s not obviously orchestrated.

I’m bored, and I don’t think I’m the only fan out there who’s tired of the lack of storylines this season. This bunch of women used to be my favorite. However, lately, I find I am not rushing to the TV anymore to turn them on. I am, maybe at best, catching up after one or two have aired. I need the real ladies of the Potomac to stand up and do better, stat!

Nneka vs Wendy

Nneka Ihim joined the cast this season, and I was very much hoping for a Nigerian sisterhood bond with Wendy Osefo. Yet, all fans have been given so far in RHOP Season 8 is some far-fetched storyline regarding a shrine, which I can only assume a producer thought up. Since Nneka started coming for Wendy, all viewers have seen is two women arguing over voodoo.

It feels like the producers just gathered for their morning meetings, thinking, “How could we spice this up?” What ended up happening was they took two rational, even-keeled, and credible women and made them into a joke. Instead of showcasing their accomplishments, they’ve turned them into squabbling women. Yes, the Real Housewives has often featured some great fights, but his particular one is child’s play and deserves to be put to bed with no dessert.

Wendy and Her Mom

On the tail end of her fight, Wendy sat down with her mother for an exceptionally staged conversation. Firstly, it didn’t even look like Wendy’s mom knew what they were supposed to be chatting about. The previous episode shared that Wendy’s mother had been rushed into surgery, with everyone rallying around the professor. However, we learned that her mother had elected to have surgery, and was rushed to the ER due to complications. The conversation was strange at best as Wendy corrected her mother while she told her story.

Wendy then moved on to the subject of how her mom prays for people. The chat sounded like she had forgotten what they had rehearsed, and Wendy was trying her best to get her back on the right track. I’m just saying that’s exactly how I talk to my friends when they forget the lie we practiced.

Robyn’s Messy Marriage

As much as Bravo viewers live for a scandal, the Robyn Dixon and Juan Dixon drama just isn’t fun. It’s uncomfortable, truthless, and feels like Robyn is being pushed to the edge as she tries to stand by her (most likely cheating) husband. Viewers feel like they’re not getting the full story—because they aren’t. Robyn already has held back on information, making sure to save it for her podcast, Reasonably Shady. With Robyn revealing the best tea on her podcast, her storyline on RHOP Season 8 seems especially calculated.

The Editors Have Given Up

In the last season, Real Housewives of Potomac fans watched as Bravo editors plastered many of the women’s storylines out of the water. Season 8 had Gizelle Bryant and Mia Thornton telling their truth, but the stories looked to be made up to everyone else. Editors wasted no time in showing how badly the stories were fabricated, especially when a friend accused Chris Bassett of flirting. Instantly, editors cut to shots of Chris minding his own business and not even interacting with them.

The stories were refuted in real-time. RHOP Season 8, however, shows the women refusing to film with one another. Candiace flat out refuses to acknowledge Ashley Darby since her soon-to-be ex, Michael Darby, is suing her for defamation after the singer claimed he gave oral sex to a man for money. Gizelle and Robyn are also not interacting with Candiace. At some point, viewers became tired of the foolishness. If the women don’t start interacting, the network might need to think about a cleanout.
