The Weeknd Donates $2.5m to Palestinian Aid
Canadian musician The Weeknd is directing $US2.5 million to provide emergency relief in Palestine through his XO Humanitarian Fund. This donation is in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and will fund over four million emergency meals. Around 820 metric tons of food parcels will arrive in Gaza, which are set to feed 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks.
The Weeknd’s Abel Tesfaye has been a Goodwill Ambassador for WFP since October 2021. The musician’s XO Humanitarian Fund was formed in collaboration with the World Food Program USA and has already raised $US5 million to combat food insecurity.
The Weeknd donated $1 million to Ethiopia relief in 2021
The Weeknd stepped up to help Ethiopia in 2021, donating $US1 million to cover two million meals through the United Nations World Food Program. Additionally, Tesfaye has committed to donating one dollar from every ticket sold to his ongoing After Hours ’til Dawn stadium tour to the XO Humanitarian Fund.
WFP expressed gratitude for The Weeknd’s contribution, saying that they hope it will inspire others to support their efforts in addressing the urgent hunger crisis in Gaza. The organisation is working tirelessly to provide aid in the region, underscoring the importance of sustained humanitarian access and donor support.
