Wendy Williams reveals she is currently living in a sober house: 'That is my truth'
On The Wendy Williams Show Tuesday, the host announced that she is currently seeking treatment for addiction.
“For some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house,” an emotional Williams told her audience.
The announcement comes two weeks after returning to the show following a two-month medical leave due to complications from Graves’ disease. Williams said that after doing the show each day she does two hours of pilates across the street from the studio in New York City, and from there her days are a new reality.
“After I go to the pilates, I go to several meetings all around town in the tri-state area. And I see my brothers and sisters caught up in their addiction and looking for help,” Williams said. “After I finish my appointments, seeing my brothers and sisters and breaking bread, I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to a home that I live in here in the tri-state with a bunch of smelly boys who’ve become my family.”
Williams didn’t say specifically what she is dealing with, but did mention that when she struggled with cocaine in her past she never went through the proper treatment for it.
“I don’t know how, except god was sitting on my shoulder and I just stopped,” Williams said of pervious addiction struggles.
Williams said only her husband and son, Kevin Hunter Sr. and Kevin Hunter Jr., have known about her current situation. And she reminded people that The Hunter Foundation has a hotline number (888-5HUNTER) for those struggling with addiction.
“There are people in your family — it might be you — you have been struggling. And I wanted to know more of the story. So this is my autobiographical story, and I’m living it. I’m telling you this,” Williams said. She concluded: “So that is my truth.”
